HEAT OF THE WEEK: Rain on Me by Madblaq
Madblaq aka Ntsan’wisi has been making waves ever since he broke through the wall ya Tsonga rap, kid is one of the honest artists ka Tsonga rap and by honest I mean, he mostly if not only raps about his life experiences which makes it easy to tap into his music because of the emotional bridge he creates. Which is another thing other artists need to learn, EMOTIONS are very important ka risimu, as a listener I need to be attached like in a story, I need to connect and feel without hearing what u’re saying.
Let’s get into review ya Rain on me from Rap Game Ntsan’wisi EP.
I must say I was very sceptical about it hi mhaka ya HOOK which is in English and it took me close to a minute to tap in, and this is what artists need to learn, no one will give u more than 30 sec so u better capture me sooner. The BEAT redirected me though coz I could tell by it kuri it’s gonna be an emotional song. Again, u need to be very careful when u choose beats when u wanna tap into emotions, the feel of the song needs to go hand in hand with the beat or else mi ta hupa blind.
1st verse proves the power ya LANGUAGE, it is very easy for me to tap into my emotions if u talk to me in my mother’s tongue, home ground advantage a yi tirhi bolweni ntsena. As much as DELIVERY is important, LANGUAGE will make u win or flop. What I am saying is that when u think emotions, think language then u can think of how to deliver. Boy is a rapper, but ka 1st verse he decided to talk to us and he was very smart with the DELIVERY coz he knows he’s not a good singer, he put a lot of emotions in it and the most important part is what he was saying of which to me was important coz at the end of the day your LYRICS communicate to the listener.
Regardless of what one is going through, the 1st verse is a sing along, ‘Jehova pfula ndlelooo/hi dzuka nyuku hi chava ku hluphekooo/u ngaze u huma ndleloo/ku hundzuka swi lava ku pfumela…. ‘. On his 2nd verse he tells u about his life, it might not sound as powerful hi mhaka ya LANGUAGE, but it is a dope verse if u listen to it kahle, and his DELIVERY is slick too. He talks about being depressed and how people laughed at him, and I think this was caused by the loss of his loved ones, if u listen to his mixtape he has songs that he talks about that (may their souls rest in peace). This verse again shows u that music means a lot to this kid, and his brother is doing the most to help him out which is one thing that’s hard when life is against you, trust me I know, maxaka ma ta ku hlekula ku olova loko u ri busy u koka ribye hi tissue yo tsakama.
Back to music, Rain on me has impressed me because of the BEAT, EMOTIONS, LANGUAGE, LYRICS and the DELIVERY which are the 5 fundamentals to a heat song. Hi va nyika 5/5 Boti Madblaq and we hope people are responding well ka Rap Game ntsanwisi EP, here’s the download link: http://xikulu.com/17511
